FC Cincinnati v Columbus Crew: Their Season's So Far

With a historic match between FC Cincinnati and Columbus Crew coming next Wednesday in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Tournament, let's take a look at how each season has been stacking up for the two clubs.

Now it should be obvious that these two teams play in two different leagues, and with that comes a wide skill and money gap. But nonetheless, the numbers are interesting to look at. Keep in mind these numbers only reflect league play and not pre-season, friendlies, or tournaments.

- FC Cincinnati sits 7th in the USL Eastern Conference with 4 wins, 5 losses, and 4 ties. That comes out to 16 points from 13 games played.
- Columbus Crew sits at 5th in the MLS Eastern Conference with 7 wins, 8 losses, and 1 tie. Coming to a total of 22 points from 16 games played.

- FC Cincinnati has scored 13 goals with 54 shots on target while conceding 13 goals.
- Columbus Crew has scored 24 goals with 72 shots on target while conceding 26 goals.

- FC Cincinnati has an average attendance of 19, 132 as of Week 11 with a total attendance of 114, 790 off of just 6 home matches (far and away the highest in the USL).
- Columbus Crew has an average attendance of 13, 050 and total attendance of 104, 402 as off Week 14 off of 8 home matches (lowest in the MLS).

When you add in the fact that Columbus has played 4 more league games than Cincinnati the pitch numbers are almost even. Although it does seem that the Crew may have more firepower, scoring double the amount of goals of Cincy, they've also conceded more than double when it comes to defense.

The biggest gap between the two is the attendance numbers. Cincinnati continues to dazzle with its fan showing, being far and away higher in number than any other team in the USL and also higher than nearly half of MLS teams.

Maybe the crowd will be the deciding factor come June 14th, so make sure you make it down to Nippert Stadium for what will surely be a milestone match for this young up-and-coming club.
