FC Cincinnati vs Chicago Fire FC could be on ESPN
After drawing a crowd of 30,000+ against the Columbus Crew FC, FC Cincinnati might have made enough of an impression to get their Round of 16 matchup against the Chicago Fire FC on ESPN. While it most likely would not make the main ESPN broadcast as ESPN already has the college world series scheduled, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup game might be able to squeeze in a spot on ESPN2 or ESPN3.
This possibility was reported by Taylor Twellman, an ESPN family member.
As the game nears, scheduled for June 28 at 7:30, information like that will become more clear. This would be another huge chance for FCC to show that they are MLS-ready. With a stadium in the plans and an MLS bid in, it seems far-fetched for them not to be awarded a spot.Real possibility that #ESPN will be covering @fccincinnati @usopencup game vs @ChicagoFire on June 28th. #MLS #USOpenCup— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) June 22, 2017
The Chicago Fire, who are one of MLS's top teams, currently sit at No. 2 in the Eastern Conference. They, just like the Crew, are playing with the most to lose. Playing against a borderline playoff MLS team, even the Fire might not be prepared for the outstanding crowd that the lower-level club brings in.
FCC has a terrific atmosphere, and even if the Fire find a way to win, FCC will still be there supporting their club!
