FC Cincinnati to hold press conference for "Major Announcements"
When you announce an announcement, it must be big right?
FC Cincinnati is continuing the trend of big events with a press conference scheduled for July 7th at 11:30 a.m. and are rumored to be about advancements in the youth academy as well as something to do with women's soccer.
So, what could they be?
FC Cincinnati has made it well known that they intend on creating a youth academy so this one seems pretty obvious. This will provide a platform for a bigger stage for local talent, as well as help strengthen the bid for MLS expansion.
Then we get to the topic of women's soccer. It's not totally clear what this could be about, but we have a few theories.
One possibility is the launch of an FC Cincinnati women's team. This may be a bit of a stretch but women's soccer is growing exponentially in the United Sates and Cincinnati could be the perfect market to start a team. With Cincinnati native and USA International Rose Lavelle said to be making an appearance at the press conference on Friday, could she make a return to Cincinnati? Which brings us to another possibility.
FC Cincinnati and Jeff Berding have not been quiet about ambitions of brings the USMNT or USWNT to Nippert Stadium. The USWNT have a match in November against Canada with a venue TBD and with international friendlies having been a huge success in Columbus and Nippert Stadium having undergone recent renovations to improve pitch size, this could be a perfect time to bring the first international friendly to Cincinnati.
Whatever the announcements end up being, they're sure to be huge for the growth of soccer in Cincinnati.
