FC Cincinnati should shine against Tampa Bay, another ESPN televised game
On an unusual schedule, FC Cincinnati will take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies, currently ranked fourth in the USL's Eastern Conference. FCC, which occupies the seventh spot with 21 points, is playing on Thursday, July 6, in Tampa Bay. This will be their first game since the first of the month.
Tampa has taken two straight losses, and FCC will look to make that three straight. Those two losses, one against top-seeded Charleston and the other against eleventh ranked Pittsburgh, both were by multiple goals. The Rowdies have not won for over a month. Their last victory was May 19 against Toronto FC II.
But, the Rowdies do have something that may be valuable for FCC. They have played and lost to FCC's next cup opponent, an underrated Miami FC. They lost that game 2-0 as Miami continued in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. If Coach Koch is smart, he may discuss how he might beat Miami FC and advance to the semifinals of the Cup.
In my opinion, the most interesting thing to think about before the game starts is the formation. Koch has decided to go with multiple different formations over the last several games. In FCC's last game, a draw against Orlando City B, the team started in a 3-4-3. There have been times where Koch has decided to drop four back, put five in the midfield, or allow Konig and Djiby to operate the front alone. So, whatever Koch, the mastermind of a coach, decides will work, but it should certainly intrigue the casual fan.
As the game gets closer, anticipate seeing the starting XI and dissecting the way Koch will line up his side. If FCC, who needs to improve their play in their USL games, can get away with a victory, it'll be a great accomplishment.
