Preview: FC Cincinnati face off against Harrisburg City Islanders
After a rescheduling from the middle of next week to this Saturday, FC Cincinnati will take on Harrisburg City Islanders for the first time this season.
Cincinnati will look to impress at Nippert as they begin the first of a three game home-stand where they will face opponents such as Valencia CF (7/24) in an international friendly and the Rochester Rhinos (7/29) when they resume USL action. With both Cincinnati and Harrisburg in relatively similar form, this should be a closely contested match. Both teams are on the bubble of playoff contention with FCC holding the slight advantage of 27 points after 19 games to the Islander's 23, also through 19.
Strikers Djiby Fall (10 goals) and Danni König (5 goals) will be confident and eager to continue their hot goal scoring form after scoring a goal a piece in last weeks derby win over Louisville City. With Harrison Delbridge back from his injury and in good shape after his performance against Louisville, Harrisburg will need to try some things offensively in order to garner any type of success. They've only scored 18 goals all season with their leading scorer being Paul Wilson with 3 goals, and a mediocre -4 goal difference to Cincinnati's +3.
A side note to this match is the use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) which is still in a testing phase. Cincinnati might be glad to have the technology used as they've had a number of missed calls this season, including an Andrew Wiedeman goal called offside in the US Open Cup match against Chicago Fire that was clearly onside.
