The Dirty River Derby: All you need to know about FC Cincinnati vs Louisville City FC

This weekend marks the third edition of the River Cities Cup between FC Cincinnati and Louisville City FC this season.

The two teams had previously met once in USL play (a 1-1 draw at Nippert in April) and once in the US Open Cup (a 1-0 Cincinnati victory, also at Nippert). This time though, Alan Koch's men look to end Louisville City's 13 game home unbeaten streak as they head down to the Louisville Slugger Field on Saturday at 7:30 pm.

Cincinnati currently sits at 6th in the USL table with 24 points and 18 games played while Louisville is 2nd with 29 points, but three fewer games played at 15. A win this weekend for the Orange & Blue would be a huge boost for their playoff push heading into the second half of the season, and of course, would mean bragging rights heading north of the Ohio river until they meet again in August.

FCC will be on a few extra days of rest due to the cancellation of their mid-week match with Miami FC so look for a full strength team in Louisville. Potent forward Djiby Fall will hope to reach double digits in USL play this season, already with 9 goals in 12 appearances. Reigning goalkeeper or the year Mitch Hildebrandt (50 saves this season) will need to say no a few more times this weekend to deny Louisville City who boasts a +10 goal difference in league play.

There hasn't yet been any word on the status of Harrison Delbridge, Justin Hoyte, Austin Berry, or Andrew Weideman who were all ruled medically inactive for the canceled game against Miami. No matter what happens, one thing is certain every time these two teams meet: There's sure to be some fireworks.
